A Night of Boredom

Wow, last night, Josh and I were so bored. We both agreed that it was the most bored we had ever been together. It was 6:30 pm, and we agreed we were bored but we couldn't figure out what to do. Movies are too expensive, it was too hot and humid out to take a walk. Josh mentioned taking the canoe out onto the river, but I successfully dodged that idea.

So what did we end up doing? Josh sat at the computer and looked up some Bored.com website that had trivia, word games, and quizzes on it, while I played electronic sudoku. That seemed to entertain us for about 30 minutes, then Josh found a website that does text to speech, so he typed in some funny phrases and we laughed at the computer for speaking those funny phrases.

I finally decided that I needed Ice cream, so we drove to Dairy Queen. After I ate my sundae and half of Josh's Large Butterscotch dipped vanilla cone, we went to visit Josh's brother and his wife (they just got a new puppy). After hanging out there for a bit, and watching an episode of Grey's anatomy, which is an addictive show, we headed home again.

Once home, we were still bored...So we played Texas Hold 'em for a few hours using pennies from a penny jar that has been completely full for years now.

After I ended up with most of the pennies, we agreed that we were tired and went to bed.

Yawn! Now, if you just got bored reading this entry, I'm sorry, but that's how I felt last night.

And so this blog doesn't completely suck, here's a picture of my sister-in-laws new Corgi puppy named Gus.

Summer Days...Wasting Away

Pretty soon, the outside world will look like this again.

Don't get me wrong, I love it when it snows, but the other day I realized that I need to take down my garland of fake spring flowers that are hanging on my curtain rod and replace them with my garland of fake orange, yellow and red maple leaves.

Where did the summer go? Even with the drought and intense heat that we have been seeing here for the past month, time has been flying by. Usually, when conditions get unbearable, time seems to slow down so that we suffer as much as we possible can, but this past month has defied the laws of "though shalt suffer as much as possible when conditions outside suck."

I've noticed as my age keeps increasing in numbers that time goes by quicker every year, but this summer I realized that that my perception of time isn't linear, it's exponential. So next year, I imagine, I will feel like I've lost the whole year instead of just a couple of months.

I still cling to the hope though, that when I'm old and have to rely on people to help me up from my chair, time will once again slow down. Maybe, even though I'll be old and reliant on others, I will appreciate how time has slowed and I can shake my heads at kids who go about a mile a minute while I sit in my rocking chair and crochet a doily.

I love selling tupperware!

So far, as a consultant in my first month, I've sold over $600 worth of product, and 25% of those sales go directly to me. I love it love it love it. Also, Tupperware is just awesome. I love the products that they have, and so far, I've earned a great amount of free or half-off priced tupperware.

I've learned how to add Tupperware banners to my blog so that anyone who clicks on the tupperware ad will go directly to my tupperware site. Try it if you don't believe me :)

I have to admit that when my husband recommended that "we" sell Tupperware, I was a bit hesitant, but I really enjoy going to meetings, and brainstorming with other consultants about how we can sell more tupperware. And the best part is that I truly believe that tupperware is the best product for food storage. I know that my mother still has pieces of tupperware from the 70's that she still uses.

Tupperware is also one of the most recognized brands in the nation. So, if anyone needs to purchase Tupperware, you know where to come :)

He... not It

It's nice to be able to say "He's kicking" instead of "It's kicking." And I've already said "Your son...." a few times to Josh, which is kind of fun.

I think that he has been more active now that we know that he's a boy. Maybe, before, he was masking the fact that he was a boy by being more docile? But now that we know we'll have a rambunctious boy on our hands, he's showing his true colors?

Or maybe, he's just sleeping less and playing more. In his pictures, he sure liked to have his hands up by his face a lot...maybe he's boxing in there?

Well, whatever he's doing, we're are really anticipating meeting him, and I'm ready to have my normal figure back.

I've noticed the following things that are changing about me as I get further into this pregnancy:

  • Stretch marks
  • Bones clicking together in my lower back as my ligaments loosen to get ready for labor
  • Nose bleeds every morning
  • Heavier breathing when I go up just one flight of stairs
  • Hunger pains that could kill
  • Smaller stomach which means that I have to eat smaller meals more frequently
  • Fruit cravings
  • Frequent trips to the bathroom
  • Breasts that shouldn't be mine...I don't like big boobs, and I want my smaller ones back.

And there are many more things that I just can't remember. But every time I feel that little boy kick, it brings a smile to my face, and it warms my heart. And things are going so well for us...so many other women have a lot of problems during their pregnancies and I feel so very happy that we have been so lucky this far.

BOY!

We now know with a 90% certainty that we are having a baby boy on or around December 3rd, 2006!

Now we have to figure out what we're going to call him...we're having troubles picking out a boy's name. Oh well, we still have months to figure that out.

Here are some scans of our little athlete (I asked Josh what he was thinking while we were waiting in the clinic room, and he said "He's going to play football or baseball.")

Here's his profile.

He looks like he's sucking his thumb here.

Here's the 4D picture of his face. Doesn't he look like he has a big nose? Maybe he'll have the Wilson nose?

Guess what this told us?

The origin of Dandelion Soup

In case many of you were curious about the title of my blog...

There once was a little girl with white-blond curls. This little girl grew up without the massive amounts of unnessesary children's toys that most young kids seem to take for granted now days. Along with her three brothers, she entertained herself by digging holes in the dirt with her Mom's spoons - years later when the family dug the foundation for their new house, they found spoons everywhere - and making Dandelion Soup.

Late spring was one of this little girl's favorite times of the year. It was one of the only times that a good batch of her Famous Dandelion Soup could be made. She shares her recipe with you today...

Materials needed:

Dad's metal oil pan
Broken plastic shovel handle

Ingredients needed:

2 or 3 handfuls of handpicked Dandelions from the yard
A sufficient amount of water
A few handfuls of dirt
Possibly some grass clippings
Any left over oil in the bottom of oil pan

Stir all of the ingredients together in the oil pan with the broken plastic shovel handle until well mixed. Add more Dandelions if needed. Let soup cook in the hot sun as you go off and play elsewhere with or without your brothers.

A few days later when water has evaporated, either dump out old ingredients and start fresh, or just add more water.

Note: Dandelion soup is to be made for entertainment purposes only, and should not be eaten by anyone, including the family dog.

Oh Pregnant Me!

After speaking with a friend yesterday, I realize that I must post pictures of my belly as it increases in size. People have been asking, and I have quietly been ignoring.

Understand why I am hesitant... I don't want to be one of those pregnant women, who proudly posts pictures of her growing belly but doesn't realize that the rest of her is getting bigger also. You know how you look in the mirror every day, so you don't really see drastic changes in your appearance over time. Now, imagine that aunt or friend from college hasn't seen me in months, so when they finally get to see a picture of pregnant me, they will only think one thing. Wow, she's gotten fat all over.

Oh how vain can I be? This is one time in my life where my body is allowed to be fat. So, maybe my face has gotten pudgy, but I can't tell, maybe my arms have gotten flabby, but I can't tell. Well, maybe you just try grown a human being inside yourself, and subsequently lose all control over your body. Hmmmph!

Well, anyway, friends and family can stop asking to see pictures of Pregnant me, because here goes nothing....

Archiving

Yes it is much easier to archive digital photos than printed photos but it still take a long time and plenty of CD-RW discs. While I was going through old photos, I found this photo that made me crack up.

Who am I?

I am a technical writer who lives in North Dakota, but grew up in North Central Minnesota. It seems that a blog is the perfect arena for me to voice all the crazy stories, experiences, and opinions that I have about stuff.

I'm pregnant with my first child, so at least for the next few months I might post entries about the fetus that I am host to :)

Other topics that I might find it worth while to blog about include (but are not limited to):

Photography, Knitting, My Husband, My Family, My Husband's Family, Winnie the Irish Setter, Wilbur the big black cat, Tupperware, Home Remodeling, Attempts at Gardening, Living in a Cube, Digital Scrapbooking, and more

I welcome comments, and I'll try to post pictures when I can.
